Jack Grealish calls Dean Smith the ‘real GOAT’ as the Manchester City man posts message on Twitter to his former Aston Villa manager following his sacking

Jack Grealish posted a heart warming message on Twitter, hailing Dean Smith after he was sacked as manager of Aston Villa.

The £100 million Manchester City man played under Smith at Villa Park and was instrumental in getting the club promoted from the Championship and helped them survive their first season back in the Premier League.

The club confirmed Smith’s departure after a string of poor results that left the club in 15th place, two points above the relegation zone.

However, Smith will always hold a special place in Villa fans hearts and none more so than Grealish.

“No one will ever compare,” Villa’s former captain Tweeted as he added a series of heart emojis to portray his affection for Smith.

Whilst he made his debut for the club in 2013, it wasn’t until 2018 when Grealish flourished.

Under Smith, in the 2018/19 season, the midfielder contributed to six goals and eight assists in 34 league games as he helped the club win the Championship play-offs.

As the club finally returned to the Premier League, Grealish was instrumental once again, and scored a crucial goal on the final day of the season against West Ham to earn them a point and secure their status in the top flight.

Again his numbers were impressive with 14 goal contributions in 36 league games, highlighting the improvement he made under Smith.

Clubs began to notice Grealish, particularly in the 2020/21 season and despite missing 12 games through injury, the former Villa captain improved his numbers again with 18 goal contributions in 26 games.

The move then led to a record breaking transfer to City where he is settling in under Pep Guardiola.

Sadly for his former club though, they have not been able to progress which led to Smith’s sacking.
